Jett's First Birthday

Our little guy turned ONE today and as I think back to last year being pregnant it really does seem like a long time ago but at the same time it is really neat to see how much he has filled a void in our life that we didn't know was there and that we can't imagine our life without him.  My prayer for him on facebook was that the Lord would protect him and keep him and that Jett would live a life that pleases Him.
A rare family picture.  My life feels very full and complete with these two little ones who seem to love each other.
I could just stare at this little man all day.
The big gift for Jett was this wagon from Grammie and Grandpa.  It was a big hit and I can see many long walks in our future here at Hume with it.
I think it is a hit.  Thanks Grammie and Grandpa.

Standing up so proud.
Nana came up for a little while and got some Jett time in.  Our birthday boy woke up this morning with a really yucky cold.  Thankfully kids are more durable then adults when sick.
For Jett's first birthday we went with a truck theme because for awhile Jett had this really little yellow dump truck that he played with and was obsessed with it.  We lost it of course but it gave me the idea and I know my friend Colleen would be proud of what we came up with.  Jay of course was much of the inspiration being a set designer and all but we make a great team implementing it all.
This was homemade granola thanks to my friend Colleen's recipe.  It was really easy and so yummy.  Thanks Colleen!
Applejuice and Lemonade what more could you need.
Extra batter from Jett's cake made great cupcakes.

It is hard to tell but we had Mud (pudding), Asphault (oreo), Worms, Woodchip all for snacks.  I think it was a big success.

Now we got most of these trucks from our neighbor boy who is obsessed with tractors, trucks, etc.  Now he of course knows the names for them all and he was happy to share them (well he wasn't home so I guess he never knew:))
One goal I had was to get a family picture because we didn't for Tanner's birthday.  It was a success and we were all smiling a double bonus.  Yes this is our new backyard for many who haven't seen it.  It is gorgeous and we LOVE it a ton.  The nice thing is it is shaded most of the time.
Our birthday boy.  Because of the Jett being sick and our nephew being sick a lot of the kids didn't make it but those that did made it really special for Jett and we had a great time.
Cake time.  Jett loves to eat with his hands so I knew this would be a success unlike Tanner who just cried because we took her strawberry away for the cake.
I think he likes it.
The nice thing was he didn't get too messy.
New ride truck from Nana and Papa.  He loved it.
He knew just what to do with it.
Another successful toy from Auntie EE and Uncle B.  All the kids wanted in on this one and Tanner just begged to have it opened.
This is a classic shot of him holding his card that says birthday boy and being next to his wagon.  Thank you photographer (Jay).
Here we go.  I think he rode it in for a good 20 minutes loving it and Grammie was happy to pull him.  I hear it pulls smooth and nice.
And the finished cake.  I would say he did pretty good and I think had a great birthday.  We had fun planning it and celebrating our little man. Birthday pictures just in.

First Flower girl

While we were down in San Diego there was a special wedding that happened where Peter Carey and Tanner got to be the ring bearer and flower girl.  The groom was a previous Hume SD Staff member and the mother of the groom is our contact person for Point Loma.  Peter and Tanner had a blast doing together I think and were way more into the rose petals (dropping and picking up) then anything else.  Tanner of course LOVED her fancy dress and shoes.
Showing off their shoes.  Do you see Peter's adorable red converse.  SOOOO fun.  Tanner carried her basket all day and even asked the next morning if she could wear her dress again.
Peter being his adorable, handsome self.  We are so blessed to have Tanner and Peter so close.  They truly are great friends.
Tanner tries to copy everything Peter does.
Only picture I got with the two kids all San Diego and we never really did get a picture of all 4 of us.  Guess we were a little busy.
Such a cutie (Jett of course)!!  Love this little man.
Everyone has asked about this kiss we put on facebook so here is the story.  The photographer was taking wedding party photos and the kids for some reason were never asked to join.  So we (the parents) had our own photo shoot because they were all dressed up looking cute and still clean.  Jay asked Peter to give Tanner a kiss.  This was first attempt.
Then Tanner got on board and we got this epic picture.
Then Peter stated sticking out his tongue, and Tanner has this hilarious look on her face.
Then Tanner was over it and ready to move on.  OH what joy kids bring to our lives and we loved capturing the fun between these two.
Jett just hanging out watching the photo shoot.
The last thing we did was have Peter help Tanner with her shoe.  He is such a gentleman and really will make some girl sooo lucky someday.  All in all it was a great wedding and Tanner gets to be another flower girl in September.  We hope this one goes just as well but Peter won't be there so we will see how it goes.

Photographer in training

SO anytime Tanner sees a camera she instantly wants to take pictures.  Most of this has been brought on  by her Grammie who is always so generous and never worried about her grandkids braking things.  With the help her patient Grammie showing her how to use the camera, anytime Tanner sees a camera she opens it up and starts taking pictures.  On this particular day we were at our favorite bread place in San Diego getting the infamous "chocolate bread" when Tanner started taking pictures.  Here is daddy eatting his bread.  She even captured the sign in the background.
Tanner loves to take photos of flowers too.
Auntie April and Uncle Cliff have no idea who is pointing and shooting pictures.  Guess we need to teach how to round people up and tell them to look and say "cheese".
Here is Jett learning to pull up.  He wasn't crawling yet here but was so close to pulling up.
We didn't get a ton of pictures at our time in SeaWorld this year but one night Tanner, Mommy, and Daddy all went to SeaWorld for some "Tanner Time" and one of the things she wanted to do was ride the rides.  Daddy went on Elmo which is equivalent to Dumbo at Disneyland.  The she really wanted to go on Abby's ride which is like Teacups.  Last year she was a little nervous of this one but this year she wanted to go faster, and faster like all the other people.  She wanted to spin her brains out, and this is NOT mommy or daddy's favorite thing to do.  Maybe in the future she will have to find friends or fly solo on this ride.
Here we are going round and round.

Beach Time in SD

Well our first beach time for Jett and he followed in his sisters footsteps.  SAND IN THE MOUTH!! In most of our pictures he had his hands in his mouth.  I was grossed out of course and sad that I didn't have a pacifier to put in to prevent it, so we had to occupy his hands with shovels and toys.   He had a blast and loved the beach just like his parents and sister.
YEAH for both kids looking and smiling.    The M.O. at the beach is Daddy builds the castles and the kids knock them down.  They love every minute of it.  Our goal for this summer was to get Tanner in the water.
Tanner enjoying the day and mommy finally got her to look up at the camera.
Our little sharky enjoying his time and he always has a smile for the camera.
Digging in the dirt.  He loved the feel of the sand and we just let him go to town.
Jett is notorious for rubbing his feet together.  That is how he gets his socks off and his shoes.  I loved that I was capturing him rubbing his feet in the sand.
Mommy and daddy capturing a smile as we try to relax after a long month.  First day off Jay got we hit the beach.

Daddy and his kids.  It is a lot more work to try and get two kids to smile for a picture.
Happy boy just enjoyed a full strawberry all by himself.  Let me just say that red strawberry and sand are not a great combo for clean up but minutes of entertainment for a 10 month old.

All our Hume SD kids having fun on the last weekend of camp.  It was a perfect day and if you notice Tanner's hair, she went in the water.  She loved it until she tripped and a wave washed over her.  Good thing our friend was there to lift her up and out.

Another year in SD

Once again we are back at Point Loma Nazarene University doing what Jay loves to do...camp for students.  This year on our first night God provided a beautiful sunset that we haven't seen down here in a few years because it is always so gloomy.  I made Jay come outside and take it in with Tanner because as we are learning, the time with our kids is precious and goes so fast.

Here's Tanner!  She was so cute, she told the sun nite nite and then we'll see you tomorrow.  Man I love that little girl.

Mommy and Tanner.

Tanner is very into cameras, thanks to the help of Grammie.  She took a few pretty good pictures on Grammie's camera of a ferris wheel so it got me thinking that maybe I really should teach her about taking pictures.  Here she was sitting so nicely for her tutorial.
Her first picture,  Jett's bottom.  Of course I am a proud parent and think we should frame it and let's be honest who doesn't love a baby's bottom.  She took some of mommy but they were definitely no good :)

Today was a beautiful sunny day.  We never even really saw the sun last year so we decided to take advantage of it.  Tanner and Pete had a blast at the beach digging, digging, digging.  No water for them today.

So far it has been a great start thanks to the help of Grammie, but we are really looking forward to camp starting so that we can see daddy some.  The kids really miss him and I know he misses them.
